Tulsa Mayor’s Race Shifts Into High Gear

Familiar foes face off as Tulsa mayor’s race heats up

The campaign signs are going up. The television ads are airing.

And so the fun begins.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett, whose re-election bid rests on a message of continuing economic and public safety success, will spar over the next two months with former Mayor Kathy Taylor, who bills herself as a strong leader who has proven she can get results, and former City Councilor Bill Christiansen, the self-proclaimed “alternative” candidate.

The race’s three leaders will rush to deliver their messages before the June 11 nonpartisan primary election, when a sole majority for one candidate would end the contest without a need for the Nov. 12 general election.

So voters better pay attention.
