Turner, Sparks Announce Campaigns

Two Oklahoma candidates launch campaigns for U.S. Congressman Lankford’s seat in 5th District

State Rep. Mike Turner, of Edmond, and Harvey Sparks, a former staff member for U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine, each have declared they will run for U.S. Congress.

Both are seeking the the 5th District seat being vacated by James Lankford, who is running for the U.S. Senate. The district includes most of Oklahoma County, along with Seminole and Pottawatomie counties.

“The main reason I’m running is that we need strong, active conservatives of a new generation who aren’t part of the status quo, but are there to work hard in Congress,” said Turner, R-Edmond.

Turner said he decided to run because he doesn’t believe there is a true, consistent conservative among the other candidates on such wide-ranging issues as taxes, spending, social issues, economic growth, tort reform and immigration.
