Uber prides itself on innovation and that extends to our constantly improving safety measures.
uberX driver partners must pass background checks that include criminal screenings at the federal, multi-state and county levels and a full review of a driver’s motor vehicle record. A rider’s ability to rate drivers provides another layer of data that helps to maintain a safe, high-quality experience for all users.
Uber’s commitment to safety is exemplified by our $1,000,000 commercial liability policy from the moment a driver accepts a trip request until the completion of the ride – which goes well above what is required of traditional transportation options in Oklahoma. For example, this is 10x the amount required of taxis in Oklahoma City. When a driver is available on the app but not engaged in a trip, Uber provides contingent coverage of $50,000/individual/incident for bodily injury, $100,000 total/incident for bodily injury and $25,000/incident for property damage should a driver’s personal auto insurance policy not cover for any reason during this period. This ensures end-to-end insurance coverage for both drivers and passengers.
uberX standards for partner drivers far exceed what is required of OKC taxis. In addition to motor vehicle screenings, uberX partners must pass local, multi-state, and federal criminal background checks as well as a national sex offender registry screen. In contrast, OKC taxi drivers are only subject to in state criminal background checks and state level sex offender registry screens.
