How much does your state rely on Obamacare subsidies?
BY JASON RUSSELL
Now that the Supreme Court has upheld Obamacare’s federal subsidies, the 6.4 million people who were in danger of losing their health care tax credits can rest easy. People in 34 states were at risk of losing their subsidies because they signed up for health care on the federally-run healthcare.gov.
Obamacare subsidies on all exchanges are now set in place. Across the nation, some states rely heavily on subsidies, while other states have nearly no one relying on them.
The state most reliant on Obamacare subsidies is Florida. Almost 6.8 percent of its population receives tax credits for health care through Obamacare. For a state as politically important as Florida, Obamacare reform could decide the election in 2016. Then again, the portion of the population receiving subsidies may not include many swing voters.
North Carolina is the state second-most reliant on Obamacare subsidies, with 4.7 percent of its population receiving subsidies.
